ppl_ is a modern abbreviation of the word people. In the book Acts chapter 9 vs. 2 Saul was persecuted “men and women who belonged to the way,” [ppl_ of the way] that he might jail them when his conversion happened  but he became a follower of the way— Jesus. ppl_ of the way are modern disciples of Jesus.
